DEREK FUOCO ATTENDS THE FIRST 2 ROUNDS OF THE IJSBA CANADIAN WATERCROSS TOUR

I attended the first two rounds of the IJSBA Canadian Watercross Tour this past weekend in Oscoda, MI. It was one of the best racer friendly venues I have ever attended at Mai Tiki resort. Liquid Militia With 0 seat time and only Riva steering system, handle bars, and sponsons installed on the new Kawasaki 300x, I spent Saturday morning breaking in the fresh engine as much as possible prior to the first moto. Despite having a virtually box stock ski setup for this weekend I entered Pro-AM RA Open Class to get more riders on the line in the same class and keep things interesting this season. The 300x is a lot different in terms of handling in comparison to the RXPX hull which I used to race and will take sometime to get used to. I was happy to finish 2nd in the first moto.

Going into the 2nd moto I fought for a hole shot with Juan Rada going into the first corner after the finish line and was pushed wide causing me to miss the next sequential short distance right hand buoy. With no make up buoy in place to hit, I circled to make up the buoy but unfortunately had to let the entire field pass before being able to do so safely. I was able to get back into 4th place but with only 6 lap motos I was not able to get around anymore riders on a tight course with a 300x. I ended round 1 with a 3rd place overall. Round 2 began on Sunday after a nice beach party the night before. First moto could have went better only finishing in 4th . The 2nd moto I knew I just had to be consistent and was able to salvage a 2nd place , giving me a 2nd place overall for the 2nd round of the CWA tour. All in all it was a great time had with friends. Everyone on tour is helpful and there for the same reasons. I look forward to the next round in Belle River , ON in a few weeks.
