Global brands Sony and Lycamobile join Powerboat P1’s AquaX World Rankings as commercial partners.
More than 100 personal watercraft racers from the UK and USA qualify to be officially ranked in the new system, and the coveted world number 1 spot is currently held by American rider Eric Francis.
“The new World Rankings are a reflection of the growing interest in our race series on both sides of the Atlantic and the rising number of competitors” explained P1 chief executive James Durbin. “The association with world class brands like Sony and Lycamobile is a great fit with our world rankings.”
“The ranking system considers a plethora of data in each race, including the strength of the field, conditions, the number of riders in each class, finishing position and how recently the race took place. Francis’ consistent racing this season, combined with his results from late 2013, are enough to edge him ahead of UK riders Tim Batte and Dave Huddleston. On being presented with the world number 1 race vest in Tampa earlier this month, multiple world and national champion a delighted Francis said: “This will motivate me to work even harder to keep the top spot and to win the AquaX title this year.”
Durbin added: “The battle to be world number 1 at the end of the season in September is not just about the prize money but also about becoming the proud owner of a Sony XperiaZ waterproof phone powered by a Lycamobile sim.”
