by Craig Thompson craig.thompson@jpress.co.uk sunderlandecho.comPhotographer Angy Ellis and partner Martin Watmough, an enterprise consultant, who live in Grangetown, had just returned to Seaham marina after a trip to Hartlepool on Sunday afternoon when they were alerted to the struggling black Labrador off the side of the North Pier.Angy, who had just become a member of Seaham Jet Ski Club with Martin, 38, the day before, said: “We turned around and got out there was fast as we could.“I’m the driver and Martin was on the back, and we had sped out of the harbour.“People had already thrown in the life-saving rings, and the dog was touching it with his paws, but dogs don’t know how to use rings.“I reversed in, and we were calling its name, Alfie, and he managed to find the strength to get that 3ft or 4ft.“I got hold of his collar, and Martin grabbed his back end and we got him on the seat.“His owners were on the beach, and they gave us a hug and him a big hug. It was emotional.”The RNLI escorted the couple and Alfie as they returned to port.[fblike]
